Efforts on to chalk out reconciliation formula

The consultative meetings of top leadership of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) are underway at the Presidency in a bid to come out with a new reconciliatory formula to defuse political tension after the Supreme Court's verdict regarding the disqualification of Sharif brothers.Well placed sources told The News that many senior leaders of the PPP held separate meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday to discuss different options for reconciliation with the PML-N."It was decided in the meetings to look into options for successfully overpower the political crisis by extending contacts with the PML-N," the sources said, adding that the PML-Q was also playing a major role in this regard but it does not want to form government with the PPP in Punjab.Some PPP senior leaders suggested that if the PML-Q did not respond positively, then the PPP would sit on the opposition benches in the Punjab Assembly.Sources said Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani also offered to the president and prime minister to play his role to mediate between the two parties. Besides, the ANP chief Asfandyar Wali Khan and JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman had also offered President Zardari to play their role to mediate between the two parties. Both the leaders would meet President Zardari within next few days.
